Mother’s Day

Indulge your Mega-Munchies this Mother’s Day and treat yourself Mother to Afternoon Tea.

For my 18th birthday, Mum treated me to an incredible afternoon tea at The Savoy Hotel in London. At the time I thought it was something of an unnecessary extravagance seeing as I didn’t even drink tea. But that was then. Now, there is no doubt in my mind: afternoon tea is an entirely necessary extravagance. An extravagance one can’t afford to miss out on. Over the years since that life-changing First Tea, I have made it yet another one of my goals to try every-yes, every-establishment in search of The Best. Here is the ranking as it stands today:

#3-The Orchard, Cambridge
After an objectively lengthy trek through Grantchester meadows, The Orchard Tea Garden is a welcomed break, with quick and easy no-fuss service and cakes and scones which are literally the size of a small animal.

– It could have been 2nd place had it not been for THE WASPS.

#2-The Spatisserie at The Dorchester, London
Restaurant/Tea Room/Lounge/Spa, I have never been in a more serenely relaxing space in my life. Picture ladies of leisure reclined on plush chaises longs wrapped in the most gorgeous looking white robes surrounded by chiffon and silk in pinks, pearls and creams. The full Traditional Tea service is £45 and £55 with champagne. ‘Laurent-Perrier rose Afternoon Tea is available for £59 per person’. It’s no Eat as Much as You Like buffet but it’s enough and you won’t be left feeling empty and robbed.

#1, número uno, The One, The Only- The Savoy
For me, this hotel is pretty much the Mecca of lunchtime treats. Afternoon Tea is served in the Thames Foyer from 1.30pm-5.45pm, the sandwiches are lush, the cakes are lush and the scones keep coming and coming and coming and coming and…consider your Mega-Munchies satisfied.

‘To make a reservation in the Thames Foyer, please telephone +44 (0)20 7420 2111, email savoy@fairmont.com or make an online reservation at OpenTable “book now” button below. Advance reservations for Afternoon Tea are strongly advised.’- http://www.fairmont.com/savoy-london/dining/thamesfoyer/

Next on the list: The Goring Hotel, London. Winner of the Top London Afternoon Tea Award 2013 from the UK Tea Guild.

Mother’s Day 2014 however, will hopefully consist of a home-made afternoon tea prepared by two of my closest friends and myself for our darling mothers.

Friends-It could go so wrong-
